FISHBOURNE SAILABILITY CLUB FINDS NEW HOME IN COWES
Fishbourne Sailability Club is delighted to announce that they will be moving to Cowes for the start of the 2010 season. Following discussions with a number of clubs and organisations in the area, the club will now be operating from Cowes-based charity and leading maritime training provider, UKSA. The club will be looking to strengthen their links with the Andrew Cassell Foundation and the Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club, as well as other groups in the area.
Jon Ely, Chief Executive at UKSA, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Fishbourne Sailability Club to its new home at UKSA. The UKSA is strengthening its links with the local community, and we hope that our relationship with Fishbourne Sailability will encourage many new members to get afloat and take advantage of the facilities we provide during the season ahead.”
Brian Gay (Commodore FSC) said: “We appreciate the support given by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club which has enabled Fishbourne Sailability Club to become an established provider of opportunities for recreation afloat for Islanders with disabilities and are leaving Fishbourne with some regret. We now look forward to an exciting future in Cowes and working even more closely with established centres of excellence.”
Geoff Holt (Transatlantic and Round UK disabled sailor) remarked:
“I am very familiar with the excellent work done by Fishbourne Sailability Club for disabled sailors. UKSA is a great venue and everyone at FSC will be assured of first class facilities and a warm welcome. Andy Cassell does sterling work for sailing for people with disabilities through CCYC. FSC will go from strength to strength in its new location at Cowes."
The move comes after eight successful years of operation culminating in the raising of £16,000 to purchase a motor catamaran and further recent awards of £2,000 from the Little Britain Challenge Cup and £400 from the BBC Radio Solent Community Chest.
